South Africa: KwaZulu-Natal Winning War against HIV/Aids and TB

KwaZulu-Natal has recorded a decline in HIV/Aids prevalence as a result of a collective effort by the KZN Provincial Government to deal head-on with the scourge.
“We have seen a reduction in HIV prevalence amongst pregnant women decrease from 39.5% in 2009 to 37.4% in 2011 (Ante-Natal Survey),” KZN MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo announced on Wednesday.

South Africa: Polokwane to Create More Jobs for the Poor

Limpopo's capital city is on a drive to create more jobs through the government's Expanded Public Works Programme in the 2013/2014 financial year.
Polokwane mayor Freddy Greaver announced that the council is doing their best to ensure that jobs are created in an effort to reduce unemployment.
“I will make sure that I create more job opportunities amongst my municipality to fight poverty as there are various development initiatives that will create jobs for locals,” Greaver said this week.

Beneficiation can promote industrialisation and boost job creation, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies says.
Beneficiation, he said, will ensure that more value was added to domestic mineral products before exporting them.
“What we need to address is how we can use the minerals of our country as a tool of development and the only way to achieve this is through beneficiation. Beneficiation will create more jobs and promote industrialisation," he said at a Sanlam function on Tuesday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements and Public Works has delivered 25 940 housing units in the 2012-2013 financial year.
“We have spent our full budget and in the process delivered 25 940 housing units in the 2012-2013 financial year. In the 2013-2014 financial years our goal is to deliver 27,382 housing units,” said KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Ravigasen Ranganathan Pillay.

South Africa: Over 2000 000 Jobs Opportunities Created in KZN

The Department of Public Works in 2011/2012 created 214 306 work opportunities, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Ravigasen Ranganathan Pillay announced today.
Delivering the 2013-2014 Public Works Budget Speech before the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature in Pietermaritzburg, Pillay said 8 855 actual jobs and 2 753 full time equivalents (FTEs) were also created.
He said the total budget for 2013-2014 is R1 261 366 000.
