UNDESA Publications and UN E-Government Survey 2014 Praised by Italian Prime Minister

On the occasion of the 69th General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Italy, H.E. Matteo Renzi, received from the Officer in Charge of the Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM), Mr. Vincenzo Aquaro, the United Nations E-Government Survey 2014 and the full library of e-documents of United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) on Public Administration and Development Management.  Prime Minister Renzi acknowledged with expressions of praise the fact that more than 60 years of support to the field of public administration were condensed in a memory drive, including the latest edition of the UN E-Government Survey 2014 under the theme "E-Government for the Future We Want."  Within the last few weeks the UN E-Government Survey has been well received by the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, the President of Uruguay, the Secretary of State and the Minister of Higher Education and ICTs of Tunisia, the Secretary General for State Modernisation in France, among other high-level officials, as a tribute to the quality of one of UNDESA's flagship publications.

This publication provides an overview of 145 successful innovations in governance and public administration from 50 countries that received the United Nations Public Service Awards, which is the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service.

2014 Global e-Government Forum, 6-8 October, Astana, Kazakhstan

The 2014 Global e-Government Forum entitled "“Smart Governance for Sustainable Development: New Opportunities for Partnerships in the Networked Society”, which will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan from 6 to 8 October, is organized by the E-Government Branch (EGB) of the Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in partnership with Agency for Communication and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.  Within the framework of this Forum, DPADM's Development Management Branch (DMB) is organizing one of the four parallel workshops (maybe link to their workshop). The Global Forum  will provide an opportunity to participants from around the world to exchange knowledge on how to promote smart governance through plenary sessions, four parallel workshops, a ministerial round-table and study tours. During the Forum, the awardees of the 2014 UN e-Government Survey Special Awards will be recognised during a high-level ceremony. Over 700 participants are expected to attend the event.

Formal/Informal Institutions for Citizen Engagement for Implementing the Post2015 Development Agenda

Leading experts from academia, government and civil society organizations will meet in Paris, France, on 20 and 21 October at a meeting on Formal/Informal Institutions for Citizen Engagement for implementing the Post 2015 Development Agenda. The Expert Group Meeting, organized by The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), through its Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) in collaboration with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia(ESCWA), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will examine ways in which governments can leverage opportunities for collaboration with non-State actors to better address sustainable development challenges.

Uruguay President Praises 2014 United Nations E-Government Survey
The Office of President José Mujica of Uruguay hosted a special event on 5 September 2014 in recognition of the country’s e-government achievements in line with the results of the 2014 United Nations E-Government Survey. The President indicated Uruguay’s use of the Survey to access global e-government practices and to obtain concrete policy guidance. The President further noted that e-government is indeed irreversible and has become a key agent for State transformation.

8th Internet Governance Forum Report Now Available
In October 2013 Internet governance experts, civil society, government and intergovernmental organizations' officials, members of the academic and technical communities, private sector representatives and citizens gathered in Bali, Indonesia, for the 8th meeting of the Internet Governance Forum. The Report of this meeting titled Building Bridges: Enhancing Multistakeholder Cooperation for Growth and Sustainable Development is now available in DPADM e-Library.

Remote Participation IGF 2014
The 9th annual IGF meeting will be held in Istanbul, Turkey on 2-5 September 2014, with an overarching theme of "Connecting Continents for Enhanced Multistakeholder Internet Governance".  All main/focus sessions, workshops, dynamic coalitions, open forums and best practice forums will have webcast, captioning and remote participation using the WebEX interface. A partir de los resultados obtenidos recientemente en el segundo barómetro de la profesionalización de los servicios civiles de Centroamérica y República Dominicana, se analiza la evolución de los servicios civiles en los siete países en el período 2004-2012, caracterizado en la subregión por contar con políticas meritocráticas y flexibles. se revisan los avances logrados y los desafíos todavía pendientes en los servicios civiles de los siete países.
