| Description: |
This workshop will address policies, strategies, practices and tools for public administrations to promote citizens’ engagement in development management, with a particular focus on the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. The goal of the workshop is to enhance the knowledge and build shared understanding among participants on the ways to enhance citizens’ engagement in different stages of development management (policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation), with a view of promoting inclusive social and economic development and taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable groups of people. The workshop will provide panel discussions with key citizens' engagement experts, as well as ample time for group discussions on innovative approaches, methodologies and tools, including e-Government tools. Key findings from the workshop deliberations will be reflected in a report. Yet, with equal importance, the workshop will also lead to networking among participants contributing to subsequent knowledge sharing about citizens’ engagement in development management, including through an online knowledge base on Public Administration and Citizens’ Engagement under construction by DPADM.
The workshop will be held in connection with the United Nations Public Service Day and Forum 2010 and organized in collaboration with the host of the event, Government of Catalonia, Spain.
