Panel on Safeguarding Financing for Sustainable Development
Start Date: May 28, 2013
End Date: May 28, 2013
Venue: New York, NY
Description:

Objective

The objective of the Panel is to bring to the attention of Member States the challenges and potential safeguards in ensuring economic, efficient and effective use of, and preventing corruption in, financing for sustainable development at the national and local levels, particularly in view of anticipated new and innovative sources of funding.

The advice of supreme audit institutions (SAI’s) -- based on their cumulative experience in assessing value-for-money public spending, intra and inter-governmental operations and public private partnerships -- is invaluable to Member States.   Public sector auditors can help identify risks of waste and loss of scarce public resources earmarked for sustainable development initiatives as well as regulatory, administrative control and anti-corruption measures for mitigating them.
