Responsible Tourism and Empowerment of Women in Southern Africa Dialogue Conference

Description: Capstone Training and Development in partnership with Meadowlands Tourism Development Centre - South Africa is hosting a conference on 'Responsible Tourism and Empowerment of Women in Southern Africa' from 13-14 February 2014 in Johannesburg.

This dialogue will be an engagement between the stakeholders in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, the Policy makers in Government, the regional tourism institutions, communities-based projects and the business owners. The dialogue will examine the regional and national 'best practices' towards achieving the Empowerment of Women in the Tourism and Hospitality Sectors.

The Keynote Speaker is Dr Sadiq, deputy representative and officer-in charge, UN WOMEN Southern Africa Multi-Country Office, Johannesburg, South Africa. Sadiq is a human rights professional specialising in women’s rights and served extensively in conflict, post-conflict and developing countries. Sadiq holds an LL.M from University of Delhi and PhD in Women’s Rights from the Tamilnadu Dr Ambedkar Law University.

The dialogue will bring together top policy makers in Southern Africa from various sectors representatives from Ministries of women affairs, gender, education, trade, industry, agriculture, tourism and environment; representatives from tourism boards / associations in Southern Africa, Representatives of civil societies women associations, youth agencies, private sector, NGOs, SMMEs and local authorities; representatives of regional organisation and international community.

The main themes / topics for the conference are:
• The Keynote Address 'Responsible Tourism - Empowerment of Women in Southern Africa';
• Regional Policy Framework for Responsible Tourism, topics:
National Policy Framework for Responsible Tourism;
Participation of Women in the Tourism mainstream;
Gender mainstreaming in the Tourism Sector);
• The Impacts of Tourism on local communities, topics:
Relationship between gender representation in the Hospitality industry and tourism entrepreneurship activities;
Economic and socio-cultural impact of tourism on local communities;
• Regional Responsible Tourism Best Practice (country specific - case studies).
