YANGON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has extradited 31 foreign prisoners released from among the 452 under Thursday's amnesty order of the President, official media reported Friday.
The 31 extradited foreign prisoners from Yangon's Insein Jail include two disabled, one aged, one Cameron, one long-sentenced prisoner and 26 others, said the New Light of Myanmar.
Other sources said other released local prisoners did not include political activists.
The amnesty was given for the sake of "establishing stability of the state and eternal peace, on humanitarian ground, for turning them into citizens who do their bit in nation building task realizing sympathy and goodwill of the state and for prolonging friendship with neighboring countries", the order said.
The amnesty for the remaining prisoners was seen as part of the government's continued democratic reform and it also came days before the U.S. President Barack Obama is to pay a historic visit to Myanmar on next Monday.
The amnesty was the seventh granted by the president to prisoners in the country since the new government assumed office on March 30 last year.
In the sixth amnesty in September this year, 514 prisoners were freed.
The present amnesty has brought the total number of prisoners pardoned to 29,470 since the new civilian government was installed.
