Two Chinese scientists, explosion mechanics expert Zheng Zhemin and radar engineering expert Wang Xiaomo, were awarded China's top science award Friday for their remarkable contributions to scientific and technological innovation.
An awarding ceremony was held in Beijing Friday morning. Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Xi Jinping, Wen Jiabao, Li Keqiang and Liu Yunshan attended the ceremony.
Zheng, 88, has devoted himself to research including elastic mechanics, explosion processing and underground nuclear explosions. He is member of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
Wang, 74, is regarded as the "father" of airborne warning and control systems in China. He has been engaged in the research and design of radar for the past 30 years and is a CAE member.
China has given the annual State Top Scientific and Technological Award to elite scientists and researchers for 12 consecutive years since 2000.
