Thailand's State Telco Adopts Cloud Computing Solution

CAT Telecom (CAT) — state-owned enterprise under Ministry of ICT, Thailand announced on April 3 the collaboration with IBM to provide cloud computing services in Thailand, part of the service is to enhance the government cloud project.

CAT has adopted IBM SmartCloud infrastructure to provide cloud services to both private and government agencies. Including in the contract, the IBM will provide cloud infrastructure management services to Cat Telecom for the next four years.

“Trusted by the Thai government, CAT has been chosen to provide a government cloud together with the Electronic Government Agency,” said Kitisak Sriprasert, President of CAT.

He added that this partnership is to support CAT in achieving its goal to serve both public and private sectors effectively ultimately improve the country’s competitiveness through superior infrastructures.

“It will help satisfy client requirements ranging from basic IT infrastructure to specialized business applications,” he said.

Through IBM SmartCloud Managed Service, CAT will be able to offer reliable, secure and responsive infrastructure through pay-per-use models, with IT resources that can be scaled to accommodate business growth.

The new technology will help CAT in delivering cost-effective cloud services while reducing power consumption and improving performance through server and storage consolidation and virtualization. This will help CAT to develop and offer a wide array of cloud services, from infrastructure to software and application services, more rapidly and cost-effectively.

Operated under the ICT Ministry, CAT provides a complete range of telecom services including voice, data, e-business and IT security operation and delivery to customers both locally and internationally.
