Indonesia, Norway Aim To Seek Opportunity On New Business Cooperation

JAKARTA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with Prince of Norway Haakon Magnus at the State Palace, pledging to step up business cooperation of the two countries.

The prince and his wife Mette-Marit come to Indonesia along with over 60 businessmen from Norway and sought the possibility to build cooperation with their Indonesian fellow, spokesman of Indonesia Presidential Office Teuku Faizasyah told reporters after the meeting.

Norway plans to open a representatives office of trade in Jakarta in the near future, according to Faizasyah, but he did not elaborate further.

The spokesman said that Norway was convinced that there would be more new opportunity for cooperation between the two countries as both countries economic growth accelerated.

Indonesia's economic growth averages at over 6 percent recently and Norway about 2.6 percent, according to Faizasyah.

The Indonesian government is seeking foreign investment to help finance its mega infrastructure projects under the long-term development program (expected to be completed by 2025) so called " the MP3EI," in which the government could only fulfill over 60 percent of the financing, according to Faizasyah.

Indonesia's credit rating upgrade by Moody's and Fitch's recently is expected to help luring foreign funds.

The two countries have been progressively cooperate on human rights issue, according to Faizasyah.

Norway is one of Indonesia main partners in Europe in handling the environmental and energy issue, he has said.

Prince Magnus arrived in Indonesia on Sunday and to leave on Thursday.
