SINGAPORE - Singapore Polytechnic (SP) yesterday launched its state-of- the-art Cyber Wargame Centre to train students to defend and protect cyber systems through different scenarios.
The centre, situated in the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology, is co-funded by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA).
It is the first of its kind in a tertiary-education institution here and comprises four learning spaces for teaching computer forensics and "playing" with malicious software, among other things.
Students from the polytechnic's Diploma in Infocomm Security Management programme will be trained to "stay relevant and current" with regard to national infocomm-security requirements, said SP in a statement yesterday.
With over 1,000 cybercrime cases reported under the Computer Misuse Act over the past five years, IDA hopes that the centre will be able to better equip students to deal with real-world cybersecurity situations.
In March last year, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said that while Singapore managed to counter a few cyber-espionage attacks, more are likely in the future.
He said the country's vulnerability has increased, due in part to its inter-connectivity and heavy reliance on information-technology systems for essential services.
